Doretta M. Seehase

Doretta Seehase, 99, of Oelwein and formerly of Sumner, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Arlington Place in Oelwein.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating.  Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Fairbank Cemetery in Fairbank, Iowa.  Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2nd at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner or St. Jude’s Hospice in Strawberry Point. 

Doretta Mabel, daughter of Carl and Clara Mohlis Warnke, was born September 21, 1915, in rural Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized October 24, 1915 at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, rural Sumner. She was confirmed April 1, 1928, at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner. She received her education in the rural schools, near Sumner.  On October 4, 1934, she was united in marriage to Paul Wolff. The couple made their home in the Sumner area, until moving to Dunkerton in 1945. Following Paul’s death on March 11, 1969, Doretta worked for a brief time at a Waterloo Nursing Home. On March 6, 1971, she was married to Edwin Seehase. She and Edwin made their home in Sumner. Edwin’s death occurred August 28, 1999. Doretta entered Arlington Place in Oelwein in April of 2013. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, and enjoyed embroidery and other needlework, and playing cards.

She is survived by four sons, Robert (Marian) Wolff of Waterloo, Harold (Charlene) Wolff of Wever, Iowa, Wilbert (Beverly) Wolff of Waterloo, and Dennis (Carol) Wolff of Oelwein; one daughter-in-law, Gayle Wolff of Dunkerton; one son-in-law, Gordon Kalenske of Dunkerton; eighteen grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond (Marjorie) Warnke of Maynard; one sister, Verona Pries of Sumner; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Warnke of Oelwein, and Vera Warnke of Huron, South Dakota.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Duane; one daughter Dianna Kalenske; one daughter-in-law Dixie Wolff; two grandchildren, Randy and Kay Wolff; one great-great-grandson, James Boner; two brothers, Lester and Leo Warnke; and two sisters, Margaret Seehase and Mildred Judisch.
